“The Science Of Microwaves” by ChefSteps
Here is an example of utilizing subtle sound design to reinforce the visuals and story on screen. Animator Rick Wallace was inspired to tell the story of how microwaves really work for ChefSteps, and needed to use some creative motion graphics to tell the story.
I used recorded movements and button pushes from the microwave and replaced the in camera audio to give the opening presentation a clean and direct sound. I then utilized my virtual synth collection to create the different sound waves that associate with waves emitted from the microwave, molecule movement from the microwaving process, and sounds that reinforce the visuals of an exploding burrito.
